WHAT IS A BRAZILIAN BLOW DRY?

If your hairs on the frizzy side, a Keratin Brazilian blow dry could be just what your locks are looking for. A keratin Brazilian blow dry is a deep conditioning treatment that smoothes frizz and deeply nourishes the hair. Your hair will be left frizz-free, shiny, manageable with plenty of bounce and movement. It lasts about 3-4 months, and is a brilliant treatment for fluffy, frizzy hair for a special occasion, like a holiday, and can make styling your hair much more painless.  The added benefits of a keratin blow dry are that the hair-nourishing protein used to de-frizz the hair is super-conditioning, meaning it’ll make your hair healthier as well as swishier. If you’ve been overzealous with the heat styling and bleaching, a keratin blow dry could work wonders. Similarly, to relaxing, your hair will be saturated with a cream or liquid and left for 45mins for it to work its magic, and then it will be blow dried and straightened into your hair. No washing in required. The process can take anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on your hair length, and texture.

WHAT IS KERATIN AND HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?

What is keratin?

Keratin is a compound of proteins and the essential structural components of the skin, hair and nails of both humans and animals. Formed from a combination of amino acids, including cysteine which is rich in hair-strengthening sulphur, the cortex or structure of the hair is a little like a ladder or staircase, with bonds varying strengths as the steps.

Straight hair is structured much like a traditional ladder, whereas curly hair is like a spiral staircase. Strong hair is typically the result of stronger sulphur bonds. Breaking these bonds makes it possible to permanently transform the structure of hair from frizzy to frizz free and smooth.

How does the treatment work?

It may seem counterintuitive to use a Keratin treatment when out hair is already made up of up to 95% Keratin, but these proteins are easily damaged and depleted day to day. This degradation is mainly caused by physical damage including using thermal styling tools and chemical treatments like perms, bleaching and colouring. In fact, the structure can even be adversely affected by stress.

Most Keratin treatments include hydrolysed Keratin proteins, which fuse with our hairs natural Keratin when heated. Knows as the ‘sealing process’, this happens when the hair is infused with a Keratin treatment, dried and flat-ironed.

Depleted Keratin can make hair look dull and frizzy in appearance and can be extremely brittle and prone to split ends. Replacing the Keratin will help rebuild the cortex of the hair, giving it strength and a shiny appearance, The latest Brazilian Keratin treatments also include low pH amino acids, and are formaldehyde free, straighten hair as well as rebuild it to enviable strength which is, of course, great for anyone looking to grow their hair.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The consultation:

Once you have booked, we will begin with a consultation which can last from 10-45 minutes and is free of charge. The consultation is mainly for me to determine whether you are suitable to have the treatment done or not and to assess your hair type. I will also walk you through the process, how long it takes, the products used and recommended aftercare. It’s also a chance me to answer all your questions ahead of the treatment. If you are happy to go ahead, I will require a 10% deposit, and will send you the consultation form we would’ve have talked through for you to sign.

What will I need?

I work remotely and will travel to you, all I will need from you is a comfortable chair for you to sit on, and for us to be in a room with access to windows and plug sockets.

The Process:

Before I arrive, you will be required to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo only, no conditioner or serums are to be used, and your hair should be aired dried. You can use any clarifying shampoo from the supermarket such as: Pantene Clarifying shampoo or Head and Shoulders – deep cleanse.

The treatment will take anywhere from 2-4hrs depending on the length and thickness of your hair. I will start by sectioning and applying the product to your hair, this will need to be left in for 45 minutes. Once 45mins is up, I will then blow dry and straighten your hair to activate the Keratin product. The treatment will then be complete, and you will need to not wash your hair for 3 days.

Aftercare:

After one session, your hair will be kink-free and supremely soft, giving you a salon finish for up to four months every time you wash. You can tailor your results towards the look you like best - keep your curls and lose frizz or achieve poker straight hair if you so wish. The choice is yours.

Plus, the after-care is minimal - with a Brazilian blow dry we require you to wait for 3 days before washing your hair after treatment, and then you and your straight and shiny locks are good to go!

Brazilian blow dry keratin treatments also help your hair grow, since you’ll no longer need to put direct heat on your hair every day post-treatment. Humidity is also no longer a concern - come rain or shine, your hair will remain perfect and in place.

And it works brilliantly on any hair type - whether your hair is bleached, highlighted, permed, relaxed, kinky, damaged or previously straightened, your hair stylist will have you covered.

Brazilian Blow Dry: FAQ

WILL MY HAIR BE VERY STRAIGHT?

If your hair is wavy you can expect to have straight hair. For very curly and/or mixed race hair it will minimise the frizz, especially in humidity, but I cannot guarantee straight hair on the first treatment. However after 3-6 Brazilian Blow Dry treatments, your hair may straighten slightly. Some Asian hair can be resistant, I'll be able to advise you accordingly based upon your hair type.

CAN I HAVE THIS TREATMENT WITH COLOURED OR HIGHLIGHTED HAIR?

Absolutely yes! The Brazilian Blow Dry will improve the health of coloured or highlighted hair, sealing the cuticle to help lock in your colour. I recommend that you have a 5-7 day gap between your Brazilian Blow Dry treatment and colour/highlights service to avoid aggravating your hair. For best results I recommend your colour or highlights are completed after your Brazilian Blow Dry. Please be aware in most instances the Brazilian Blow Dry may lighten your colour after the treatment.

Brazilian Blow Dry: FAQ

CAN I HAVE THIS TREATMENT IF MY HAIR IS RELAXED OR CHEMICALLY STRAIGHTENED?

Yes, provided your hair has not been damaged by the relaxer or straightening product. The Brazilian Blow Dry will enhance the look of your hair and give more movement. It is a great touch-up treatment if you've previously had Yuko Straightening to avoid over processing your hair with chemicals.

WILL I LOSE HAIR VOLUME POST TREATMENT?

Some clients experience a reduction in volume for the first month post treatment. This is especially true for hair that is fine and/or already straight before having a Brazilian Blow Dry (reduce frizz = reduce volume).

CAN I GO SWIMMING AFTER HAVING A BRAZILIAN BLOW DRY?

Yes, but not for the first 3 days post treatment and you must have shampooed your hair in accordance with our aftercare instructions before going swimming. The treatment will be affected by chlorine and/or sea water. You should use sulphate free shampoo and use a quality conditioner after swimming regardless of whether you have a Brazilian Blow Dry or not.

CAN I TIE MY HAIR UP POST TREATMENT?

This should be avoided for the first 3 days and you must have shampooed your hair at least once before tying your hair up and using hair accessories.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Usually this takes anywhere from 3-4hrs depending on hair length and thickness. I will advise you during consultation when you book.
